Some Interesting Automotive Uses for Bond Products

One of the great things we at Bond get from our customers is feedback on the way our products have improved their lives or helped them get their work done. We recently heard from Rebecca at Rebecca Haas Upholstery about how she’s used both our glue sticks and Instabind to restore beautiful and classic cars. Here’s a photo of the interior of her Corvette project:

Rebecca used our glue sticks to seam the carpet and glue the foam to the seats. “This car won first place in its category at Detroit 2014 and second place in the whole country in Cincinnati 2014.”

Here’s more of Rebecca’s work on some custom Porsche racing seats.

She used Instabind in this car on the carpet and engine cover area and used our glue sticks for the seams in the carpet, too. And here is a picture of the whole car, for reference (and for your visual pleasure).

The truly great thing about many of our products is their universality of use. Need a lampshade recovered? Instabind can help get the job done. Want to restore an antique rug? We’ve got the supplies for that too. Whether indoor or outdoor, for a new creation or the restoration of a valuable piece of history, for work or for your hobby, for carpets, rugs, upholstery, turf, automotive, or a range of other materials, Bond Products has what you need. Call us today to see how we can help you like we did Rebecca.

How Are the California Drought and Bond Products Connected?

Bond Products’ binding tapes are used by any number of people – professional carpet layers, DIYers, and hobbyists. We are used to seeing a variety of projects completed using our products. One more recent use has been particularly interesting, however, and it came about all because of the weather.

The American West has been experiencing periods of limited or no rainfall for many years now. The dry areas stretch from Texas to Oklahoma to California, which, for 11 of the past 14 years, have experienced drought. In fact, scientists have begun to warn that this trend may be only the beginning – of the 35-year mega-drought to come.

The State of California, in response to a the dire lack of water due to four straight years of drought, has both declared a drought state of emergency and begun to take measures to limit how its citizens can use what water remains. Locally, many municipalities set regulations for water use, such as for watering lawns, but now Governor Brown has ordered mandatory water reductions for cities and towns statewide with the goal of reducing water usage by 25 percent. In addition to this, California is also ordering the replacement of 50 million square feet of lawn with drought tolerant landscaping and offering an artifical grass rebate program as an incentive as well.

For Californians used to lush gardens, year-round produce, and green, green lawns and golf courses, this is bad news indeed. However, some homeowners are taking the news in stride and creating their own solutions – with artificial turf. Just a few years ago, many people would have turned their noses up at the idea of a fake lawn, but as more winters pass without much rain or snowfall and the California drought continues, things change.

California droughtThis past week The New York Times interviewed homeowners, turf salesmen, and environmentalists to see how minds were changing. There are a number of options for those looking at artificial turf, including better, more realistic looking products. For people who crave a natural outdoor aesthetic, this makes all the difference in the world. Tony Skelnick, general manager of Artificial Grass Liquidators, estimated that his company is installing 20 new lawns every month. Governor Brown has also indicated that he might sign legislation that would stop homeowners associations from banning or fining residents who wish to have artificial lawns installed. Four years ago, Brown vetoed a similar bill.

What does this have to do with our company? Well, as with other types of carpet, artificial lawns have to be bound in order to both look nice and hold up – particularly under more challenging outdoor stresses. And Bond Products binding tapes are up to the task. Does it seem odd that the weather in California influences carpet binding tape sales in Pennsylvania? Perhaps. But, if the past few decades have taught us anything, it’s that we now live in a global economy, so if a butterfly flaps its wings in Brazil

If you have a carpet binding question or need, feel free to contact us at Bond Products. We have solutions for all sorts of challenges, most of them not related to the weather at all.

Another Cool Instabind Application!

Bond Products always appreciates the cool new innovative ways folks use our products. Here’s a letter from one of our customers about a new Instabind application she came up with. Thank you, Renee!

Mr. Milnes –

Not sure if you would be interested, but I have found another application for your Instabind product. I recently re-covered two old lamp shades with Burlap and used the Instabind as a beautiful finish for the upper and lower rims of the shade. I’m attaching some pictures of the finished piece. Worked just as well on the shades as the carpet scraps. Thank you again!

Bond Model PBB-2X Bobbinless Portable Carpet Binder

It’s been a challenge to convince folks that a new machine with new and better technology is the way to go. Here’s a testimony of one who finally pulled the trigger!

12/17/2014

Hello Brian and Scott,
Thank you for the help. The machine appears to be correcting the problem itself. I have sewn enough carpet on it that the guide plate has worn itself down slightly and now allows the carpet to pass a little smoother. This is a great machine, I have sewn what would have taken me a week on a PBL machine in a couple of days. The serging tape sewn with this machine looks perfect. Very happy with this machine; my only regret is waiting so long to buy one, but then it wouldn’t have had that cool led lighting. It is very powerful and can tackle everything we have thrown at it so far. Thanks again.
Merry Christmas!

Best Carpet for Pet Owners?

Pet owners looking for new carpet have two main priorities: stain resistance and durability. After all, pet accidents and wear and tear from four-legged traffic can really take a toll on your carpet and shorten its life span, though this seems like a fair trade for the health benefits pets bring to their owners. Many 21st-century consumers have added health and environmental effects to their list of flooring priorities, and finding a carpet that meets these concerns is getting easier.

#Made in USA Quality!

In our ever changing world of politics and economics we have been tempted  to buy more products overseas to be more competitive. Trouble is, there’s a lot of uncertainty. Here’s a small list of what to expect.

  • Slow service
  • Poor quality
  • Poor workmanship
  • Loss of customers

Yes it’s tempting to try and compete with large retailers who import on a mass scale, but why sacrifice long term business for short term gains. Stick with quality and service and don’t hesitate to pay a few more dollars for an item backed by reputable companies know for friendly personable service!

Remembering Our Heroes

In lieu of our upcoming National Holiday, I just want to take a moment to reflect and give thanks for all the folks who sacrificed so much for our country. We are privileged to live in a land where freedom is so assumed on a daily basis.

I was privileged to partake in a Yak Attack kayak fishing tournament this past weekend that promoted and helps support Heroes on the Water, a non-profit that gives our wounded warriors an opportunity to heal and be encouraged through kayak fishing.Heroes-on-the-water-web-pic

Needless to say there were many active and retired military participating and a group of volunteers that put on a first class event from raffle prizes, fishing trophies and prizes along with feeding easily over 100 people for two days. Also a special thank you to Fish Unlimited Taxidermy for donating the trophies.

If you are ever looking for a worthy charity to honor our heroes, Please consider Heroes on the Water on your list.

In closing, I want to thank all those who sacrificed so much to allow us to live free in our great country. God Bless!

Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities, because it is the quality that guarantees all others.

Instabind DIY On-The -Job-Site Binding

Attn: Installers and DIY’ers!

How much time is wasted in one week, a month or a year leaving the job site to get a stair or hallway runner bound? How much gas and wear and tear on your vehicle could be saved? How much more productive would you be (getting on with the next job) if you got your job done the same day instead of returning days later and how much quicker would you get paid?

These are all questions you should ask yourself. Some simple calculations will easily prove our point.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Instabind has cured all this wasted energy. Using only a hot glue gun, a pair of scissors and Instabind carpet edge finishing tape in the select color and style, you can get the job done on-site in record time. No expensive equipment to buy and no wasted time etc leaving to get a simple job done. Heck, you could even add some dollars to the job by making custom mats from left over carpet remnants at the end and make a happy customer even happier!

Mini Cooper Restoration

Shared by our UK distributor:

Hi John, Mini carpets completed and photographed.  Please feel free to use them for any promotional work, you do not have to add my name. Easy Bind is well named and we had no problems using it.  We used a hobby quality hot glue gun which did the job very well.  We are really delighted with the end result and especially as we could do it ourselves.  I hope the photos are of use, if you would like any more or different ones, please let me know.  Many thanks once again for your help in finishing off the restoration of the Mini.
Regards,
John and Elspeth

Rug Repair

Brian’s Blog April 4, 2014

We get so many calls about #rug repairs. Of course our patented Instabind tapes are the perfect solution for restoring the worn carpet edges. Also note that Instabind tapes reinforce the edges automatically due to a 1-2″ flange that remains on the underside of the rug. But what about those worn & torn spots in the middle of the rugs?

These repairs start from the backing or back side of the rugs. One way to reinforce these is using our #943 flexible seam tape and only using a hot flat iron, apply this from the back side to stabilize or re-seam the problem area.

Another solution is applying a secondary non-slip rug backing using our spray adhesive or latex glue. This will solidify the entire rug for years to come.

For more information or questions please contact us @ sales@bondOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAproducts.com or call toll free 888-800-BOND (2663).

Love Letter! #Happy Valentines Day!!!

From a happy Customer: I have enclosed 3 pictures of rugs I have used the Instabind on. We have been replacing carpeting with Pergo and Pergo is cold so needed some area rugs. I tend to pick accent colors rather than matching ones to bind with. The crimson rope binding I just ordered will go in a room decorated in red, white and blue and the carpeting I am binding is a variegated twist of light beige and Williamsburg blue in each strand, so the crimson matches the bead board color in the room. When it is done I will send a picture, you really should have a place on your site for customers to upload pictures of their finished projects. I love #Instabind and it is much easier to go purchase a carpet remnant and bind it than to buy rugs you really don’t like in a store. The selection is so much bigger. Thanks again. A happy customer.
