Genesis 1:1 Our beginning
Now in our fourth generation and celebrating 70 years, Bond Products, Inc. was founded in 1947 by Kenneth “KB” Bond Milnes as Bond Narrow Fabric Company, Inc. Uncle Ken was an inventor at heart who, (among his other inventions), developed the first hot melt carpet seaming tapes when sewing and latexing seams were still the norm.
KB, along with his brother Wesley Milnes Jr., sold narrow woven, knitted and braided tapes and cords, sewing threads, elastics, and more to the garment and lampshade manufacturing trades that were so prevalent back in the day. Uncle Wes also made calls to industrial laundry facilities and the large Detroit auto manufacturing plant areas.
Bond eventually was purchased by the Milnes family’s 100+ year old textile weaving mill here in Philadelphia where we still manufacture all of our cotton carpet binding tapes. Under our family’s ownership, Richard Milnes, our former president and current credit manager, along with the late David Schaible, our sales manager, steered the ship for over forty years.
Bond took over the supply of portable binders (formerly “Speedbinder”) hired Herbert “Gene” Garner to head the machine shop, and introduced the Bond PBL model portable carpet binders. Gene recently developed our PBB models (bobbinless portables) that are the latest technology. Patrick Huf is shadowing Gene and picking up the repair work swiftly.
Scott Heilman has the longest tenure of our full-timers (over thirty-nine years) and is still active in sales. He also runs our Service Department, while Bill Boone now runs our Instabind manufacturing division.
Ramon Burgos now runs our carpet workroom and heads our hands-on rug making training as well as Steven (Stitcher) Reynolds.
Debbie Fox, our office manager, along with Scott’s daughter Lauren and niece Elaine are our customer service professionals and are your initial contacts when you call to place orders or need help. Elizabeth Heilman now handles purchasing and administrative work.
Michael English is our warehouse and inventory manager.
Brian Milnes, Richard’s son, ran the warehouse for over ten years and worked in sales for six years. Brian purchased Bond in December 2002 and is currently the owner and President of Bond Products.
